Know the Father

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

─ Proverbs 3:5-6

It’s extremely difficult to imagine how Jesus must have felt, knowing he was going to give his life away. The plan to save us, made before the foundations of the world, meant he would lay down and die. The decision always remained his choice.

Jesus literally placed his eternal soul into the Father’s hands. It wasn’t easy. In the Garden of Gethsemane, knowing the path before him, Jesus asked the Father if there was any other way, – and yet, he chose to stick with the Father’s plan because it was the only way. Jesus sweat great drops of blood under the pressure of his choice to do the Father’s will.

Up until the final moments on the cross when he yielded his spirit to the Father, he could have changed his mind. He could have walked away and lived his life the way he wanted to. Instead, he chose God’s purpose.

Jesus knew the Father. Even after the Father looked away from Jesus while he hung on the cross, Jesus trusted God to keep his promise to raise him from the dead. He embraced the Father’s promise to raise him up, and all of us after him, who choose a relationship with Him.

As we grow in our relationship with God the Father, we too can trust Him with everything. When we trust without knowing; when we choose His path instead of our own, we can live like Jesus, knowing that whatever God promises, He will do.
