Lean Back and Rest

And now to him who can keep you on your feet, standing tall in his bright presence, fresh and celebrating—to our one God, our only Savior, through Jesus Christ, our Master, be glory, majesty, strength, and rule before all time, and now, and to the end of all time. Yes.

─ Jude 24-25 MSG

New seasons can be difficult sometimes, and transitions into that new season can be even harder. You pray, you asked God for His will and His plan—and then God shuts each door you thought to be a wonderful opportunity. We can’t help sometimes to plan, organize and prepare and still struggle to hear from Him—not because He is silent—but because your mind is flooded with questions of why, when and how.

Suddenly, you realize perhaps God doesn’t need you “helping” Him out. Our verse today says He is more than able to keep you … to present you before His glorious presence, perfect in Christ. And all you must do is rest.

One of the definitions of rest: to cease from striving. It’s a place of spiritual rest, a place to let go and relax. Spiritual rest is choosing to allow Him to call the shots and give the direction. It requires complete surrender—even in the slightest aspect—to His plans.

Today’s One Thing

Learning to rest is not easy. It takes practice. Picture yourself leaning all your weight on someone, knowing they will fully and completely support you.

Begin each day this week with this image in your heart and mind. Commit to trust and totally rely on your Heavenly Father.
