Leave Anxiety Behind

Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.

─ Proverbs 12:25 NKJV

Brandy looked down at the gift her sister, Melinda had given her. The title of the book, Prayers for an Anxious Heart, leaped out at her as an accusation. “You think I’m anxious? A worrywart?” she asked.

“Oh my goodness,” Melinda said smiling, “don’t get bent out of shape. I’m not judging you. It helped me a lot, and I thought it could be beneficial to you.”

“You’re an amazing planner. It’s what makes you so great at your job, but you are a bit of a control freak. You worry about everything being perfect. Sometimes it would be so nice to go on vacation with you and just relax.”

Brandy smiled at her sister’s bluntness. She was probably the only one in her family who ever really spoke the truth to her like that. It was something she knew she needed to hear.

Anxiety is a national epidemic. The wisdom shared in today’s verse is clear that anxiety is not something our heavenly Father desires for you to live with. Peter said to give your anxiety to your heavenly Father because He cares for ou. (1 Peter 5:7).

While planning the future is productive; worrying about tomorrow is time wasted. Sometimes we have a hard time knowing the difference. Worry brings anxiety and is the product of fear which can make it difficult to trust God and enjoy your daily life.

Today’s One Thing

Think of three things you’re worried about today. Go to a friend or mentor and share those concerns. Ask them to agree with you in prayer as you give these concerns to God. Let go and let God take care of them.
