Leave the Results to God

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.

─ Colossians 3:23-24 ESV

As we think about ways in which we can give lasting purpose to our work, we should be responsible for our work but leave the results to God. That’s a tough one. We live in a culture that is very numbers oriented. We’ve got to be careful not to become so concerned about all the measurements. We need to have the measurements, because that’s just part of doing business. But when numbers and measurements become the focal point, we can miss the fact that God is doing something that may be beyond even our lifetime.

The Apostle Paul was clear that the work we do is not for men. We can easily misplace our desire to please men instead of God when we report to others who have influence in our work lives. But God places us where He would have us if we’re willing. What we do is for the Lord, and not for those we serve each day. That makes it easier to do what you know the Father would have you do, and then leave the results with Him.

Maybe you planted a seed in someone’s life today because you’ve spoken into their life, and three or five years from now, that person is going to give their life to Christ, become a missionary and radically impact the whole world for Christ.

Today’s One Thing

When it comes to your work, in what areas do you need to work on leaving the results to God. Ask the Lord to help you do that this week.
