Opportunities to Share the Good News

Don’t forget to pray for us too, that God will give us many chances to preach the Good News of Christ for which I am here in jail. Pray that I will be bold enough to tell it freely and fully and make it plain, as, of course, I should.

─ Colossians 4:3-4 (TLB)

Paul, even as he served a sentence in jail for preaching about Jesus, remained focused on his calling from God to minister. He asked the Colossians to pray that he would be given many chances to preach the Good News of Christ. As you read our verse today, hear Paul’s heart to continue to serve Christ. Even while in chains, he did not miss an opportunity to share the gospel.

We are not all called to preach, but as we go through life, we are presented with opportunities to minister to others. What does ministry look like to you?

Here are a few examples:

  • Offer a word of encouragement to someone.
  • Impart wisdom to help a person with a challenging situation.
  • Give your time to help someone complete a project.
  • Meet a need by offering someone a ride to work.
  • Picking up a few groceries for someone who is homebound.
  • Comfort someone struggling with bad news.

Often the Good News is received when you give of yourself. Show the love of God through giving a part of yourself. Then, when the opportunity to tell someone what God’s done for you appears, they are more open to receive what God leads you to share.

Today’s One Thing

Look at the list above. What could you do this week for someone that would minister to them in a simple way? Don’t just think about it, take necessary steps to do it.
