Our Hearts Renewed in His Presence

This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.

─ 1 John 3:19-22 NIV

Cassie passed her friend, Janie, in the hall of the children’s wing of the church building where they both attended. “Hey!” Janie called, “Where have you been? You’ve not replied to my texts or calls.”

“Sorry, sorry,” Cassie replied, trying to keep her twins from escaping out of the toddler room, “I’ll call you, I promise … too busy … too much going on,” she said, ducking into the classroom and out of view.

Just like Cassie, we can become entangled in our busy lives. One of the reasons our emotions become so frayed is because we move so fast and don’t make time to mediate on His Word and pray. When we don’t take time with Him, our perception of things become blurred and we can no longer see things from the Lord’s perspective.

He reminds us, deep within our spirit being, who we belong to during our quiet times with Him. Don’t just run in and run out of the Lord’s presence. Schedule time with Him. Make an intentional choice to wait upon Him and allow His presence to renew you.

Today’s One Thing

If you don’t have a daily time with the Lord, put it on your calendar today. If you do, spend a few minutes more just sitting with Him.
