Peace Takes Practice

Practice what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and model your way of living on it, and the God of peace (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with you.

─ Philippians 4:9 AMPC

Peace isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. God invites us throughout His Word to experience His peace.  He says, “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10 KJV). We can move at breakneck speed as life goes in what feels like a million directions, but within the clamor and the chaos, the Heavenly Father’s invitation remains, to be still and know.

For most of us, it’s not easy to be still. It takes practice to allow ourselves to rest in God, to position ourselves quietly in His presence and sit at His feet. Philippians 4:9 comes with a promise. It says to practice what you have learned … receive what you have heard … and the God of your untroubled, undisturbed well-being will be with you.

As we practice His peace, we can carry His peace with us. His peace prepares us for all the unknowns that are to come into our lives. His peace centers our hearts to focus on who He is and what He promises to do instead of who we are and what we are unable to do.

Today’s One Thing

Begin to practice His peace today.

  • Sit quietly for five minutes and meditate on His glory, His beauty, His power and His sovereignty.
  • Allow who He is to settle your heart.
  • Thank Him for His peace at work in you.
