Plan More Fun as a Family

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

─ Proverbs 17:22 NIV

Plan More Fun as a Family

COVID has been such a major killjoy when it comes to having fun in families. Many of us had traditions in place and things we enjoyed doing together that we simply weren’t able to do.

Dr. Todd Thatcher’s research concluded, when families have more of a cheerful heart and have a better relationship with one another, those family members perform better academically. They have lower risk of behavioral problems. They demonstrate self-confidence, reduced stress and enhanced health.

God created us that way. Our verse today confirms cheerfulness or laughter is beneficial to our health.

So, if you find yourself following the same routine of serious things all the time – and there are a lot of serious things going on – you’ve got to make it a point to plan some fun. You’ve got to plan it, because if it doesn’t get on the schedule, it doesn’t get done.

So here’s a question for you all as a family today. What are things that we can do in our family to have more fun together?

Today’s One Thing

Gather your family together today, perhaps during dinner or right before the kids go to bed and ask each person what they think would be a fun activity to do as a family. Choose two or three and get them on the calendar today.
