Pray Anyway

And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

─ 1 John 5:14-15 NLT

Pray Anyway

Not so shocking news … Christians are not always on top. When you’re going through a season of difficulty, it’s natural to feel like you can’t pray. The enemy of your soul wants you to believe something is wrong with you; he brings guilt and condemnation in a dark desire to push you away from God.

That’s why it’s so vital to pray, especially when you don’t feel like it. It’s in that moment that you truly pray by faith. Prayer is so much more than putting your palms together and bowing your head. It goes so much deeper than closing your eyes and whispering words put to memory.

James Montgomery’s (1771-1854) hymn has long recognized that “Prayer is the soul’s sincere desire, unuttered or expressed, the motion of a hidden fire that trembles in the breast. Prayer is the burden of a sigh, the falling of a tear, the upward glancing of an eye, when none but God is near.”

Let the verse today fuel your faith with the promise it carries that God always hears you when you pray. However you choose to communicate with Him, you can rest assured that He is listening, and when you ask for anything that pleases Him, He gives you what you ask for.

Whatever you’re facing today, God is there for you. Pray in a way that brings you comfort and peace.

Today’s One Thing

If you’re struggling to know what to pray, take the Word of God and pray it back to God aloud. Start with Psalm 95. The first few verses below will get you started (Psalm 95:1-3 NLT).

Come, let us sing to the Lord!
Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come to him with thanksgiving.
Let us sing psalms of praise to him.
For the Lord is a great God,
a great King above all gods.
