Pray for Friends

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy.

─ Philippians 1:3-4

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him.”

We all have people in our lives who pour into us in some way or another. Different friends meet different needs: emotional support, trusted advice, a guaranteed good time when we get together with this one or that one.

Each one is a gift. They meet a need, fill a void or make our lives more complete. Unfortunately, most of us don’t thank God enough for the gift they are. It’s also important to sit down and share with each individual just how much they mean to us and how they specifically fit so well with us.

Besides expressing our gratitude to them, another way to show affection is to pray for them. No matter how wonderful life seems, we all have challenges – or will have them – and covering our friends in prayer is a way to give back.

Today’s One Thing

Take time this week to thank God for those who bring joy into your life. Write a note to two people this week and tell them what they mean to you.
