Stay and Pray

When Jesus died, many of his followers were deeply wounded and stricken with grief. They expected Jesus to set up his Kingdom and be with them for a lifetime, even after he repeatedly told them he would soon leave them.

Jesus appeared to them in His resurrected body. He walked and talked to them; He showed them His nail pierced hands and side. More than 500 people experienced Jesus resurrected (1 Corinthians 15:6). But only 120 followed his instruction to stay and wait.

“If two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”
– Matthew 18:19-20 ESV

How many times in your life have you wanted to run from your place of pain, embarrassment, hurt? How many times have you left your place of waiting on God and moved on?

Jesus instructed His followers to stay in Jerusalem and wait on the Holy Spirit to come, but the majority wanted to leave the place of their pain. They didn’t want to stay where the enemy had struck the hardest! And all but 120 left.

The Holy Spirit is your advocate, your helper, your support to stay the course.

What has the enemy done to discourage, disappoint, discredit or try to deny you what God promised? Whatever the enemy has tried to use on you cannot prevail if you refuse to give up.

Stay and pray! The Holy Spirit is your advocate, your helper, your support to stay the course. Refuse to give in to the pressure of the enemy.

Today’s One Thing
Would you like to run from something today? Spend some time in God’s presence over the next several days, asking Him for His wisdom in the situation. Then make a decision based on His peace. In the long run, His peace will become yours when you wait on Him.
