Staying Close

“You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him.”

Deuteronomy 13:4

It can be a little intimidating to think that God wants every part of us. He wants our hearts, minds, goals and He wants to be the focus of our lives. He wants to walk with us when we go out for dinner and sit with us when we binge watch the latest television program. He wants us to love Him the same in return; learning His Word and following His instructions. He wants our eyes on Him.

Wow! Sounds intense, doesn’t it? And it can be, since following God’s call on can sometimes feel like we’re riding an out-of-control roller coaster. But the truth is, He’s never out of control, and if we lean back and embrace Him, the ride will be rewarding and loving.

In fact, the more we learn about the Lord, and the more time we spend with Him, the easier it’ll be to avoid temptation. You’ll start to prefer God’s company to the things that pull us away from Him. This doesn’t mean we neglect our everyday obligations to our families, jobs and churches. Caring for the gifts God has placed in our lives is one of the ways we can show our love for Him. And the more we love Him, the more we want to love Him.

And that’s a blessing beyond measure.
