Step Forward After a Setback

Everyone has setbacks. It is what you do with them that matters.

But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.

– Philippians 3:13 – ESV

Have you ever made a mistake and felt like you could never try again? Everyone makes mistakes now and then. When walking into unknown situations, there is a saying, “Just fake it until you make it.” Once you acquire the necessary information, you can exude true confidence.

Maybe you’ve let someone down and are afraid to try again. That is why the topic of forgiveness appears more than 75 times in the Bible. God knows we need to be forgiven, and we need to forgive each other. If you have asked for forgiveness and repented, take the next step. Refuse to dwell in your past mistakes. God has so much in store for you moving forward. You do not want to miss it!

You can move confidently forward as you learn from past mistakes.

You can step out in faith with confidence and do what God has set in front of you. If you feel like you can’t do it exactly right, ask Him to help you. If you have been embarrassed in front of a group of people, learn and try again. Those people have made mistakes too. Have you seen the image of the duck attempting to eat a frog? The frog is in the duck’s mouth, but he has his hands around the duck’s throat. The caption reads, “Never give up!”

If you have had a setback:

  1. Identify what it is.
  2. Process what God may want you to learn.
  3. Repent and apologize, if needed.
  4. Pray, and with God’s guidance, reset so you can take the next step to move forward.

Today’s One Thing

If you have given up in a specific area due to a setback, renew your confidence in God’s work in and through you today by asking Him how He would have you move forward. Take the next step.
