Take the Time

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.

─ Ephesians 3:20

“I had no idea it would mean so many appointments when I decided to finally have my cataract surgery,” said Kate to her daughter Eden, as she gave her the dates for each appointment.

“Oh, Mom, it’s fine,” Eden replied, as she plugged the dates into her calendar. “I can just take my laptop with me and get some work done, without the interruptions I usually get at the office.”

But the Lord had other plans. Each appointment, Eden sat down at a table and opened her laptop, only to find herself in constant conversation. During the first appointment, an older gentleman shared a history lesson about their city, explaining all the many places he had worked on while in the construction business. It seemed he’d been a part of every high rise in the city over the past 40 years.

On another appointment, an older lady from out of town asked about transportation from the surgery center back to her hotel and then to the airport for her flight home the next day. Eden took time to help her find the phone numbers for transportation services using her laptop.

By the third appointment, Eden didn’t even open her laptop. Instead, she looked around the room and waited for the Lord to show her to whom she could show His love and kindness.

People are looking for hope, for kindness and for the love of God.
