Taste and See

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

─ Psalm 34:8 ESV

Annie’s face betrayed her unexpected delight in finding that her 95 year old grandmother had made her favorite family recipe – Grandma’s incredible chocolate pie. Suddenly she was a little girl again. Memories of her childhood flooded her as her tastebuds celebrated a taste that no one today date could duplicate when it came to her grandmother’s recipe.

She smacked her lips and savored every forkful.

“Forgive me,” she said, looking at her aunt sweetly, but no matter how many times you, or anyone else try, it just doesn’t match Grandma’s. There’s something she does that is missed in the recipe,” she smiled.

Just like a favorite family recipe that no one else can get right, God is the only One that can satisfy your soul. His plans for you are good. His purpose for your life is designed specifically around the talents He’s given you, and the gifts He’s provided in those He’s divinely connected You with are like a recipe for your life. And He’s the only One who can put it together perfectly.

Our verse today invites you to take a step toward God and respond in obedience to Him. As you do, you’ll find he is kind and good. His plans are to prosper you, bless you and redeem you for all eternity. “Taste” is the result of an action. When you taste something, you’re trying it. So He’s asking us to take action and experience Him. He wants you to discover that He is all the good things He’s promised.
