Tell of His Wondrous Works

Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice!

─ 1 Chronicles 16:8-10

Anne Hjelle’s story is soaked in blood, but it also is suffused in bravery, hope and unrelenting faith. As a helicopter mechanic in the Marine Corps, she discovered mountain biking halfway through her tour of duty. While riding with her friend, Debi Nicholls on January 8, 2004, in Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park in Minnesota, Anne suddenly found herself fighting for her life – with her head held tightly in the massive jaws of a mountain lion.

As Anne fought, Debi grabbed her legs and held tight while others on the trail threw rocks at the lion. After a horrifying tug-of-war, the lion let go, but significant damage had been done to Anne’s face and body. Doctors didn’t expect her to survive, but her unrelenting faith in God brought her through and she continues to share her story of survival and God’s deliverance.

Perhaps you’ve faced your own lion – so to speak – in your life and lived to tell about it by the grace of God. When we call on Him, He faithfully answers us. With thanksgiving in our hearts, we should always remember what God has done. Our response should be to continually give Him praise and make what He’s done for us known to others (1 Chronicles 16:8-10).
