The Gift of Intentional Moments

“Ten minutes of just sitting down talking one-on-one with each child is an amazing time when I’m able to do that,” Mac Powell shared in a conversation with Family Life Radio.

Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people), Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.

– Ephesians 5:15-16 AMPC

Ten minutes might not seem like much in the grand scheme of a day filled with endless to-do lists, but it’s often the small things that make the biggest impact.

Isn’t it remarkable how Jesus could transform lives in brief yet powerful interactions? Take the woman at the well, for instance. In that short but momentous conversation, He changed her life, offering her living water that quenched her soul’s deepest thirst. “Everyone who drinks this water will get thirsty again and again. Anyone who drinks the water I give will never thirst—not ever. The water I give will be an artesian spring within, gushing fountains of endless life” (John 4:13-14 MSG).

The gift of time is one of the most precious offerings you can give, both to your loved ones and to God.

It’s easy to get lost in the busyness of life, where family time often takes a backseat to other responsibilities. We can all use the reminder that it’s not about having a lot of time; it’s about making the most of the time you have.

You can make those ten minutes count with your children, your spouse or anyone God has placed in your life. Intentional time becomes a small yet sacred space where you can share, listen, and perhaps most importantly, pray.

So, set aside those ten intentional minutes today. Make it a sanctuary in time, a moment to connect, to share and to pray. You’ll be amazed at how such a simple commitment can bring about profound changes in your family dynamics and your own spiritual walk.

Today’s One Thing

Pray this prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to treasure the time I have with my loved ones, to make each moment count for Your kingdom. Give me the wisdom to be intentional in my interactions, to offer my time as a living sacrifice to You. May these moments become wells of living water, refreshing my soul and the souls of those I interact with. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
