The Lord Bless You

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

— Numbers 6:24-26

For many years the oldest known copies of Scripture were the Dead Sea Scrolls. In 1979, however, at an excavation site in the Hinnom Valley of Jerusalem, archaeologists discovered tiny scrolls so ancient and fragile that experts needed several years to clean and unroll them. What they found—some of our oldest known existing copies of biblical text—were the words of Numbers 6:24-26.

What a treasure! And what a reminder of one of the essentials of our faith. These words have been so cherished through the centuries that they have been set to music a number of times, and they now make up one of the most beloved hymns of the church.

As God’s people did so many centuries ago, we should hold these words close to our hearts, never forgetting that He watches over us every moment of our lives. We should seek His face daily, grateful as He showers us with grace and blessings.
