Unity Brings Transformation

Unity in Christ brings the light of His love to a needy world.

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.
– Colossians 3:14 ESV

There is a small, isolated town in Nebraska named North Platte. During World War II, the troop trains, full of soldiers, passed through North Platte on their way to battle, stopping for about ten to fifteen minutes. The people of North Platte decided to express their appreciation by offering the soldiers the warmth and support of home cooking hospitality during those short stops. They greeted the soldiers with warm smiles, sandwiches, milk, cake and other items. Imagine the soldiers’ surprise and encouragement.

The citizens of North Platte and surrounding communities volunteered their time and resources to meet these trains each day from 5 a.m. until the last train came through after midnight. They fed about six million service members from Christmas of 1941 until the end of the war. On the darkest days of battle, soldiers found comfort in the memory of this unexpected act of kindness.

God uses the unity of His people to draw others to His love and the salvation of Christ.

What an incredible example of what can be accomplished when people unite for one purpose. I Peter 3:8 says, “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind” (ESV). Unity is not merely an absence of conflict, but also a rich tapestry woven with compassion and humility.

You can implement unity into your daily life by prioritizing active listening and empathy. Practice humility in discussions and being quick to forgive. As you do, God will shine through you and draw others to the transformative power of Christ’s love and salvation. Through understanding, forgiveness and humility, stand united as a testament to the unifying grace of God. The impact will be great in the darkest of places.

Today’s One Thing
Ask God to show you if there is someone you need to purposefully listen to without interruption to gain perspective and develop unity that can be used for His glory.
