Wait and Hope

I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him.

─ Isaiah 8:17 ESV

Wait and Hope

John Piper said, “To wait on God means to pause and soberly consider our own inadequacy and the Lord’s all-sufficiency, and to seek counsel and help from the Lord, and to hope in Him.”

Isaiah’s words from our verse today are strong and confident. He says even though the Lord is hiding His face from the descendants of Jacob, he is determined to wait and hope. Waiting is hard, especially in the face of adversity. But Isaiah’s words challenge you to stand firm with earnest expectation to see God’s promises produce in your life.

Have you ever felt like the Lord was hiding His face from you? Isaiah is proclaiming He will not be moved; He will not give up. He has plantedhimself in faith, believing God will eventually show Himself strong on his behalf. Much like a tree survives hundreds of years because it’s roots run deep into the ground so that it stands strong against the storms that oppose it year after year, your faith grows stronger as you wait and hope, growing in your relationship with God.

Today’s One Thing

What are you waiting for? Are you ready to dig deep and wait for that promise of God to become a reality in your life?
