While There’s Still Time

“But, as it is written, ‘What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.’”

─ 1 Corinthians 2:9

Sandra took a deep breath as she and her husband, Bart, walked off the dance floor. She seldom could get him to dance with her for any reason. But he’d made an exception for his daughter’s wedding. She scanned the crowd and noticed her father-in-law sitting alone at one of the tables tapping his foot to the music.

She suddenly had an idea. She walked over and asked him to dance with her. He jumped to his feet and held out his hand to escort her to the dance floor. As they danced, his feet came alive. His eyes sparkled in a way she hadn’t seen them shine in quite some time. “It’s all in the toes,” he said smiling. “You know, I used to be a really good dancer in my day.”

“Really?” she smiled. “Bart never told me that. You can definitely still cut a rug,” she complimented him.

The song changed, and she noticed her daughter standing next to them, “Can I cut in and get a dance with my Papa?” she said.

“It’s my honor to dance with this beautiful bride,” he said grinning.

As Sandra stepped out of the way, she heard her father say to his granddaughter, “You know, it’s all in the toes….”

It’s important to take time to be with those who appear unseen or forgotten. Sometimes that includes those who feel like their best days are behind them.
