Who Are You Following?

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

─ Hebrews 4:12 ESV

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Our chief want is someone who will inspire us to be what we know we could be.” And that’s God. If you choose to do the next right one thing followed by the next right one thing over an extended period of time, all of those one things will lead to the kind of success God has purposed for your life.

So, how are we as followers of Jesus Christ to manage our lives?

Sign onto the right leader. Be careful who you choose to sign on with. Frankly, some of us say we’re followers of Christ, but we’ve signed onto some other philosophy. We are instructed to figure out what will please Christ and do that thing. The evidence of truly being a follower of Jesus Christ is that we follow.

Do what the leader expects. That just makes sense, even in a workplace. The Bible is our roadmap for following Christ, filled with direction and expectation for our lives. It’s very clear what He expects from us.

Hebrews 4:12 says the Word of God is living, life-changing and dynamic in the way it changes us when we’re willing to follow Him. It reveals who you are and who you are not. It discerns what is within us and as we open up to God’s work in our lives, it leads and shapes us.

Remember, we become like those that we choose to follow. First and foremost, we should be following Christ.
