Worth It All

But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.

─ 1 Corinthians 15:10

Ella often looked back on life before her father stepped onto the platform as a pastor of his own congregation and wished it had never happened. She was held to a higher standard than other kids, not just at church but at school as well. She had to work harder and be better than she would have if she wasn’t a preacher’s kid.

Paul wrote of working harder than the other apostles in 1 Corinthians 15. At first you might perceive this as an arrogant statement, but as you study, you will find that it was written with humility and poised to give God glory. Paul’s conversion from one who persecuted the Christians to a believer who proclaimed the gospel of Christ, made him a target of more persecution than the other apostles, so he had to work harder to teach the same message.

In spite of all the adversity that comes with the choice to follow Christ, God’s grace makes it worth it all. No matter the struggle, in the end, with Him you are triumphant. You can stand firm in spite of the storm because God’s grace has been poured out on you.
