Messiah Sing-along

Free“For the Lord God omnipotent reigneth…”
These familiar words from Handel’s “Messiah” will fill the sanctuary of La Casa de Cristo Lutheran Church, Scottsdale, at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, when the church hosts its annual “Messiah” sing-along.
The public is invited to the free event, which will feature the Grand Canyon University choir, orchestra and soloists. Accompanying on the church’s 5,067-pipe Fritts Organ will be Dr. Jeremy Peterman, the church’s organist and handbell choir director.
Those who do not have the score can download a copy free at the International Music Score Library Project, imslp.org.
“Messiah,” an English-language oratorio, was composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel, with a scriptural text compiled by Charles Jennens from the King James Bible, and from the version of the Psalms included with the Book of Common Prayer. The oratorio gained in popularity, eventually becoming one of the best known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music.
