Every story is unique, colored by experiences, trials and triumphs. Blessing Offor, a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, shares a little of his with us, marked by struggle and resilience and the power of perspective.
“Perspective has to be everything,” Blessing asserts. His life, a testament to this belief, challenges us to view our own circumstances through a lens of faith and hope. When faced with unexpected events, our natural inclination might be to despair. Yet, Blessing’s approach invites us to see these moments not as the end but as the beginning of something new.
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (NIV).
Positive Framing
Blessing continues, “I think we all utilize perspective for better and for worse. Like, something happens that wasn’t part of your plan, your perspective could be, ‘Oh my! God, it’s all over. I quit.’ Or your perspective could be like, ‘Okay. Let’s see how where this goes.’”
He says, “All you have control over is, ‘How am I gonna frame this.’”
Your response to life’s challenges is often more crucial than the challenges themselves.
As Christ followers, we’re called to frame our trials in light of God’s promises. This doesn’t mean ignoring the pain or difficulty but choosing to see beyond it, trusting that God is at work. Philippians 4:8 encourages us, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things” (ESV).
The Role of Perspective
Identifying as a seven on the Enneagram, Blessing naturally leans towards optimism, a trait you can be cultivate. Maintaining a positive perspective, especially during trials, is vital. When you choose God’s hand in every situation, believing that He is molding you, even in adversity flips your point of view. This perspective doesn’t come easily; it’s a discipline, a daily choice to trust in God’s sovereignty and goodness.

- Seek Community: Share your journey with fellow believers. Their insights and encouragement can offer new perspectives and strengthen your faith.
Your perspective is a choice. It’s about finding that balance between acknowledging the reality of your struggles and holding onto the hope that is in Christ. Your perspective can be your most powerful tool. It can transform trials into testimonies, pain into purpose and uncertainty into unwavering faith.
