God’s Lavishing Love for You with Evvie McKinney

When Family Life Radio sat down to chat with Evvie McKinney, singer and songwriter, we asked what God is showing her lately and what is her greatest joy.

Evvie replied, “He is showing me that He is in control. As a wife and a mother, you try to control everything. You try to make sure that your baby doesn’t fall off the bed. You try to control a lot
of things that you cannot control, like a pandemic and making sure your family doesn’t get the virus.”

You are constantly thinking about and praying for your family. You want to protect them,
but God has shown Evvie she needs to be still, be quiet and know that He is God. She recognizes she is not God. All she can do is say,

“Lord, this is how I feel, but You are in control.”

Evvie’s greatest joy is her family. When she talked about them, she flashed the biggest smile and said, “I find my greatest joy is my family, my husband and my baby girl, Isabella. Oh, my goodness, she is the best.”

“I have never experienced the way I feel about my baby girl. God has given me a glimpse of how He feels about me, and this is the most beautiful feeling in the world.”

John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (ESV).

God gives the best presents out of His love for you. The greatest gift is His own Son, Jesus, and the forgiveness of sin through His sacrifice. His presence in your life is better, more abundant than any other gift.

I John 3:1 explains it beautifully,

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are ” (NIV).

In Christ, you are adopted into the family of God, and He slathers His love on you just as a new mother, like Evvie, beams with a love like she has never experienced before. She delights in Isabella, just as God delights in you as described in Zephaniah 3:17, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing” (ESV).

Picture the motherly love of Evvie protecting, rejoicing, quieting and singing over her baby girl. That is the kind of love God, the heavenly Father, has for you. Although all mothers have flaws, they provide a beautiful physical picture of this perfect love.

If you reflect on this truth and absorb it for a few minutes, you will get a glimpse of the fullness of God’s love. His Word says:

“That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:16-19 ESV).

A loving mother wants what is best for her child, just as God wants and knows what is best for you. His plans and purposes are perfect. You can give Him all your concerns because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). You can rest in His loving and almighty arms. You can know that there is nothing you can do to make Him love you any more or any less. He is singing over you. You are loved.
