Katy Nichole’s “Hold On”
A Powerful Anthem for Finding Hope in Tough Times
Katy Nichole, Christian singer-songwriter known for her heartfelt and inspiring music, shared how God spoke to her during her struggles with mental health. In a conversation with Family Life Radio she emphasizes that God has a plan and a purpose for everyone, even in the darkest moments.
“‘Hold On,’ is the story that I really have wanted to tell from the very beginning,” Katy said. More than just a song for Katy, it’s a narrative of her personal struggles and triumphs. “Obviously, I’ve talked a lot about my health. I’ve talked about having back surgeries and all of that stuff, but really getting to talk about the mental health struggles I’ve gone through has been so important for me,” she shared.
Katy’s message is clear and powerful: “I hope that this would save a life, that someone else would hear the words hold on, and that they would hear it the way that I heard it when God spoke it over my life.” Her earnest desire is for listeners to understand that God has a plan for them, just as He has for her. “I don’t want someone to give up too soon. God still has a plan. God still has a purpose for you, and God still had a purpose for me, and He still does.”
God still has a purpose for you!
The creation of “Hold On” was a thoughtful and prayerful process. “I actually wrote it at 2 a.m. in a hotel room. It wasn’t what it is now, but it was the start of the song,” Katy recounted. “I prayed over this idea because it was one of those ideas where I was like, well, if I’m going to write this song, I have to write it in God’s timing and not my own.”
Katy collaborated with her good friend, David Leonard, to bring the song to life. They worked through the sensitive subject matter together, ensuring the song remained hopeful. “There’s a right way to do it, and it’s to just really evolve the pieces of your story that bring hope.”
Katy emphasized, “When it is a really dark subject, you don’t want to highlight the dark. You want to highlight the light.” And the song, though personal and sometimes heavy, remains a beam of hope for listeners.
Reflecting on the song, Katy noted, “It doesn’t mean that a song has to be ginormous for it to be meaningful or impactful. If anything, I think that the songs that mean the most to you tend to be the most impactful at the end of the day.”
“Hold On” is her story, and sharing it is both scary and essential.
As you listen to “Hold On,” let it remind you that there is always hope, and God’s love is ever-present. Katy’s journey and music speak directly to the power of faith and perseverance. So, hold on, because God sees you, loves you, and has a purpose for you.
