Peopling” on Purpose

Do you have trouble peopling? The last few years have demonstrated the dangers of loneliness in society in a way we have never seen. We’ve witnessed the serious negative effects loneliness can have on both our physical and mental health.

But [God] told me: “My kindness  is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” So I will brag even more about my weaknesses in order that Christ’s power will live in me.

– 2 Corinthians 12:9 GW

One of the reasons people often isolate themselves is because they are afraid of being vulnerable and opening themselves up to potential rejection or hurt. However, the Bible teaches that vulnerability is actually a strength, not a weakness. It is through our weaknesses that we can experience God’s strength and power (2 Corinthians 12:9).

You were not meant to go through life alone. You need others to support you, to encourage you and walk alongside you in both good times and bad. You were created for community, and it is through your relationships with others that you can experience God’s love and grace in a tangible way.

Pursue meaningful relationships and resist the temptation to isolate yourself.

Jesus emphasized the importance of relationships. He said, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these” (Mark 12:30-31 GW).

When you choose to love God and love others, you are fulfilling the greatest commandment. Your life should be all about investing in the relationships that matter most.

So, pursue meaningful relationships and resist the temptation to isolate yourself. Although it can be difficult to open up and connect with others, the benefits of community are too great to ignore.

May you be encouraged to pursue relationships. May you decide today to “people” on purpose with an open heart and mind, and may God bless you abundantly in that pursuit.

Today’s One Thing

So today, take a step towards building community in your life. Reach out to someone you believe God would have you connect with, join a small group or Bible study or simply make an effort to spend more time with the people already in your life.
