Simple Appreciation

Imagine – you pull into your driveway this afternoon, exhausted, and you see it: a small bouquet of wildflowers handpicked and clumsily arranged in a mason jar, sitting on your porch steps. You pick it up, and there’s a little note written in familiar handwriting, “I love you. You make the simple more beautiful.” Your heart swells. For that one perfect moment, the weight of your endless to-do list seems distant. It’s incredible what a simple act of appreciation can do.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

– 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NIV

When your family is racing to the next event, or you’re attempting to navigate yet another new routine, remember to affirm one another and build each other up. A word of appreciation can do wonders for the soul, not just for the receiver but also for the giver. It helps you remember the good in life, brightening even your mood.

Appreciation is more than a momentary ‘thank you;’ it’s an ongoing culture. What if every member in your home feels seen, valued and encouraged. It fosters spiritual and emotional growth. It creates a framework where people can flourish in their walk with God.

Words of affirmation and appreciation are nutrition for the soul.

As you express appreciation, you demonstrate a divine act of love. God, in His endless wisdom, asks us to care for one another and be support pillars. When you make someone in your family or community feel appreciated, you’re practicing God’s commandment to “love your neighbor as yourself.”

Isn’t it true that you feel blessed when you receive affirmation? And you feel double-blessed when you are the sender of encouragement. The wonders of God’s blessings are only words away in lifting someone’s spirit.
