Plant God’s Word in your child’s heart

By Dr. Randy Carlson

One thing you can do to leave a powerful heritage for the next generation is to intentionally put Scripture into your child’s mind and heart.

After God shared the Ten Commandments, He instructed His people to share His commandments as they went about their day in this way:

“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” (Deuteronomy 6:6–7 nkjv)

Imagine what would happen if you took one verse every day and discussed a practical application with your children!

If you invested one verse daily into your children over 10 years—that would add up to 3,650 verses that you can send into your child’s life as guiding lights to point them in the right direction. They’re sure to remember some of those verses and recall your discussions when they face difficulties in life.

So be intentional about planting God’s Word in your child’s heart—in your family’s daily life, in your home—as part of intentionally loving and caring for your kids.
