Josh Havens from The Afters Visits with Family Life Radio Staff

TUCSON, AZ (April 22, 2022) — Josh Havens from The Afters recently visited the staff at Family Life Radio (FLR), playing fan favorite songs and giving insight into the life of the band and their songs.

Havens told the FLR staff about the testimony of his brother, who was a meth addict for 10 years, but found Christ and has been sober for 15 years and his sister, a former atheist, who found God later in life. Both helped to inspire The Afters newest song, “Say Goodbye (Say Hello).” Havens penned it as a reminder that God can change any heart, with lyrics like “if you’re carrying your past like it’s a ball and chain,” and “there’s mercy like an ocean you can sail away.”

“Hearing the meaning behind The Afters latest song, ‘Say Goodbye (Say Hello),’ gave me goosebumps. It’s the ultimate turnaround story about how God can transform any life, no matter the disparity,” said Mike Kankelfritz, director of programming and morning show host for FLR.

Havens also strummed many of the band’s top hits like “Light Up the Sky,” “Broken Hallelujah” and “When You’re with Me.” He talked about The Afters history together, beginning in the year 2000 in a Starbucks coffee shop. He shared the joys of raising his four kids, two of whom are teenagers, and the struggles faced in today’s world of social media.

The FLR team would like to thank Kai Elmer, senior director of national promotions for Fair Trade Services, for orchestrating the visit.

TUCSON, AZ (February 23, 2022) — Over 900 children will have food, medical care and more thanks to the listeners of Family Life Radio (FLR) who pledged their support during a recent Compassion International Sponsorship Drive.

The three-day fundraiser encouraged listeners to change the lives of children who are living in poverty in Hatti – the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. The earthquake in 2021 worsened conditions for families, leaving them without access to food, clean water, shelter and more.

“It’s been incredible to see Family Life Radio listeners step up and provide hope to those who are in desperate need of help,” said Mike Kankelfritz, director of programming and morning show host at FLR.

For just five quarters a day, each sponsorship will help a child living in poverty get access to education, clean water, food and chance to see a doctor. The team at Vidare Creative joined with the FLR on air hosts to run the fundraiser.

Family Life Radio President to Assume CEO Role

TUCSON, AZ (December 29, 2021) — As of January 1, 2022, president of Family Life Radio (FLR), Evan Carlson, will also assume the role of chief executive officer (CEO). His father, Dr. Randy Carlson, has been CEO since 1995.

FLR has humble roots dating back to 1966, starting its first broadcast in the basement of the home of Warren and Char Bolthouse, Evan’s grandparents. “It’s a joy for me to be able to continue forward with our mission of reaching and equipping our listeners to live a more intentional life in Christ,” said Evan.

Dr. Carlson will continue in his role as founder and host of the ministries’ Intentional Living program and as the chairman of FLR’s board of directors. “The Board has great confidence in Evan’s leadership, training and experience, and it’s an honor for me to see the ministry continuing into a third generation,” said Dr. Carlson.

Several years ago, FLR’s board of directors appointed a leadership succession committee to assess future needs for the ministry. After completing their work, the succession committee recommended Evan’s appointment as president, which began in November 2018. Evan has an MBA from Grand Canyon University and has served in several different roles at FLR, including as Vice President of Marketing and as Executive Vice President.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

3,800 Toys Collected During Family Life Radio Toy Drive

TUCSON, AZ (December 8, 2021) — Over 3,8000 unwrapped gifts, including board games, backpacks, puzzles and more, were collected as part of Family Life Radio’s (FLR) annual Toy Drive held in nine states from Arizona to Florida. The toys will benefit over 950 children, who otherwise would not receive gifts at Christmas.

In Arizona and Michigan, Youth Haven, a sister ministry of FLR, was the beneficiary. Youth Haven provides life-changing, Christ-centered experiences for disadvantaged children. FLR partnered with several other non-profits in other states including Wings for Life International in New Mexico and The Grant County Holiday Project in Wisconsin. The FLR regional promotion coordinators also held several “drive through” donation events where members of the local community were able to drop off their gifts.

“We enjoy the opportunity to be able to team up with Youth Haven and other community organizations during the Christmas season to bring hope to children in need,” said Evan Carlson, president of FLR.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

1,500 Attend Intentional Love Marriage Date Nights

Hosted by Family Life Radio’s Intentional Living Ministry

TUCSON, AZ (November 16, 2021) — Over 1,500 attended the Intentional Love Marriage Date Nights with Dr. Randy Carlson. Three separate events were held, one in Tucson, Tempe and another in Phoenix. They were hosted by Intentional Living (IL), a flagship program of Family Life Radio (FLR).

The event has been organized nearly every year over the past decade in various cities across the country. Dr. Randy Carlson, founder of IL, shares with couples the habits it takes to build a successful marriage, how to build long-term relationships and how living intentionally can help them as parents.
Not only did many accept Christ into their hearts for the first time, but several hundred committed to the “One-Thing” challenge for their marriages, vowing to work on that one thing for 30 days (being more patient, understanding and loving to name a few).

“We enjoy creating experiences for our listeners where they can learn what it takes to strengthen their relationships and take a hold of the promises that God has for them,” said Dr. Randy Carlson.

TUCSON, AZ (November 12, 2021) — Best friends who have known each other 28 years will be connected again this Christmas season as part of Family Life Radio’s (FLR) Home for the Holidays contest. Rosa in New Mexico was one of the contest winners who entered on behalf her daughter Danielle to be able to see her best friend Lisa, who has stage 4 breast cancer.

Lisa, who has no family and lives in New York, is in the fight of her life. Danielle wanted to bring Lisa to Albuquerque where she would be surrounded by the love and support of friends.

Financial hardships, among other tribulations, have kept people from seeing the people they love most and FLR wanted to step in and help. Three $500 travel vouchers were awarded to listeners who will now be able to visit with their family and friends.

“We hear from so many listeners who haven’t been able to see their family and friends over the past year, many of whom going through life and death struggles. This contest was just one way we could provide hope and bring people together,” said Mike Kankelfritz, director of programming and host of the FLR morning show.
